A middle-aged man has been charged with murder in Kericho for allegedly killing his mother.
Julius Cheruiyot Bett was charged with the offence of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the penal code.
The director of public prosecution, led by David Fedha, told the court that the accused person murdered his 100-year old mother, Grace Chelangat, on the 7th March 2026 at Kiptere location, Sigowet sub-county, Kericho county.

It is alleged that the accused rammed and killed his mother with a motor vehicle.
The accused has been pestering for inheritance of the property, which led to the killing.
He pleaded not guilty before Justice Joseph Sergon.
The court denied the accused bond after the prosecution opposed his release on bond. The matter will be mentioned on 12th May 2026 for pre-trial.
