kericho mass grave

The Kericho mass grave discovery has sent shockwaves across the country as forensic investigators and senior police officers cordoned off the Makaburini public cemetery. The probe follows a chilling report by two local grave diggers who claim they were hired to bury 14 bodies, many of which appeared to be mutilated.

The Incident at Makaburini

According to witness statements, the activity began on March 19 when unidentified individuals in a white Land Cruiser met with the cemetery’s caretaker. On the morning of March 20, the same vehicle returned, and the grave diggers were instructed to prepare a single large pit.

The witnesses allege that 14 body bags were subsequently offloaded and dumped into the grave, prompting them to report the matter to the Kericho Police Station, located just 1.5 kilometers away.

Manhunt and Investigation

As part of the ongoing Kericho mass grave investigation, authorities have launched a nationwide manhunt for the cemetery caretaker, identified only as Ezekiel, who disappeared shortly after the bodies were deposited.

“At this preliminary stage, we are seeking to establish the veracity of the claims. The National Police Service assures the public that this matter is being handled with the utmost seriousness,” the NPS stated in a Sunday afternoon brief.

Next Steps: Exhumation Order

Forensic experts have remained on-site to preserve the scene from interference. Police are currently processing an emergency court order to begin the formal exhumation of the site on Monday, March 23. This process will be critical in identifying the victims and determining the cause of death.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and report any missing persons to the nearest station as the DCI takes over the lead on the forensic analysis.
