Mombasa Businessman Nelson Alfayo Leads Nyali Race, Politrack Africa Poll Shows

Nelson Alfayo has emerged the best candidate fit to replace Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali who is eyeing the gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Results of a poll conducted by Politrack Africa indicate that 68 per cent of the Nyali residents will entrust the businessman with their votes when Ali moves to spearhead the county.

“Nelson Alfayo, 68 per cent, followed by Said Abdala 21 per cent, Abdulswamad Ali 7 per cent, Erick Gitonga 2 per cent and Abdikadir Dekow 1 per cent,” results by the poll indicated.

According Politrack, the five aspirants expressed interest in the seat after the United Opposition announced in mid-February 2026 that its candidate for the Mombasa governorship race in the 2027 General Election would be the incumbent Nyali Member of Parliament, Mohammed Ali.

This is even as results by the research company indicated that Mohammed Ali is being vouched as the best candidate for the top seat of the Coastal County and might unseat the current governor who is serving his first term.

Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, tops the opinion poll at 31.2per cent ahead of Hassan Omar 24.7 per cent and the incumbent governor Abdulswamad Nassir 19.4 per cent while another aspirant in the gubernatorial race, Ali Mbogo, emerged fourth at 12.6 per cent.

In the senatorial race, Ali Kubo leads at 25.4 per cent followed by Mohammed Faki 19.2 per centy, Robert Mutua 13.2 per cent and Benard Williams 9.6 per cent.

Other candidates include Victor Abayo 6.4 per cent and Hamisi Mwaguya 31.2 per cent. In the same breath, the undecided voters stand at 22.8 per cent, with others being 0.4%.

The undecided voters stand at 14.5 per cent, while others constitute 2.1 per centof the residents.

This is even as the poll results indicate that Citizen TV swahili anchor Mwanahamisi Hamadi is well positioned to unseat Likoni MP Mishi Mboko as she leads the sub-county polls with 31 per cent while her colleague Lulu Hassan who is said to be eyeing the Mvita Consituency seat came second in the Mvita poll with 27 per cent.
