Utawala MCA, Two Others Arrested with Illegal Firearm

Utawala MCA Patrick Karani is among three suspects who have been arrested over alleged illegal possession of a Glock pistol and ammunition in Nairobi.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the suspects were apprehended at the MCA’s office, where detectives recovered the firearm believed to have been held without a valid licence.
The other two suspects arrested alongside the Utawala Legislator are Stephen Kimathi Karimoni and Stanley Njogu Irungu.
The DCI said the operation was conducted at the Roasters area in Nairobi, where detectives recovered the Glock pistol fitted with a magazine containing 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
“Preliminary investigations reveal this firearm was being held without a valid license,” the detectives said.

The recovered pistol and ammunition have been secured as exhibits, as detectives continue with investigations and process the suspects before court proceedings.
DCI has warned that unlawful possession of firearms remains a danger to public safety, adding that those found violating firearms laws will face legal action.
“Unlawful possession of firearms poses a significant threat to public safety and warns that those found in breach of firearms laws will face the full force of the law,” the DCI said.
Possession of an illegal firearm without a valid certificate is a serious offence under Kenya’s Firearms Act, with convicted offenders facing strict penalties, including possible imprisonment.
The law provides for prison terms ranging from seven to 15 years for individuals found guilty of unlawful possession of firearms, depending on the circumstances surrounding the offence and the seriousness of the case.
