The requiem mass for the late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho on Wednesday was marked by sharp political undertones, evident in unusual seating and notable omissions from the speakers’ list.
Held at Ol Kalou Stadium, the event drew thousands of mourners alongside a high-profile delegation of leaders. However, attention quickly shifted to the optics on the main dais.
In a subtle show of defiance, Rigathi Gachagua bypassed his designated seat, opting instead for a front-row position among top national leaders.

He was seen seated next to ally John Methu, with Tourism CS Rebecca Miano on his left. The two occasionally exchanged words, appearing to read the mood of the gathering.

Gachagua was also missing from the official speakers’ list, according to the funeral programme, which outlined tributes from family, friends, and parliamentary colleagues, followed by a structured lineup of political leaders.
The arrangement culminated in addresses by senior parliamentary figures, the Deputy President, and ultimately the President.

Meanwhile, the visible separation between the President’s wing and Gachagua’s seating area underscored the deepening rift within the Kenya Kwanza alliance, following his controversial impeachment.
