NYS Recruitment 2026: Thousands of Kenyan Youth Set to Join National Service

NYS Recruitment 2026

The NYS Recruitment 2026 has officially kicked off across Kenya, running from Monday, 16th March to Saturday, 21st March 2026. Gates at all sub-county recruitment centres open daily at 8:00 a.m., offering young Kenyans an exciting chance to join the NYS, gain practical skills, and participate in national service projects.

Nationwide Reach and Requirements

The exercise is taking place in all sub-counties across the Republic of Kenya. Prospective recruits are advised to arrive early each day with all required documents, including identification and academic certificates, to ensure smooth registration.

Focus on Youth Empowerment and Skills Development

The recruitment drive is part of ongoing government initiatives to empower Kenyan youth, providing opportunities in training, community service, and career development. NYS programs also include exposure to fields such as infrastructure, agriculture, and national security.

During last year’s 89th NYS pass-out parade, President William Ruto promised to increase the number of recruits from 18,000 to 100,000. The expansion aimed to provide more employment opportunities, enhance skills development, and ensure that the NYS could undertake more national projects while empowering a larger number of Kenyan youth.

Past NYS Scandals

Over the years, the NYS has faced a number of small scandals, including:

  • 2013–2016 Payment Irregularities: Some NYS officers were accused of processing payments to ghost employees, leading to government investigations and reforms.

  • 2018 Recruitment Controversies: A few sub-counties reported irregularities during recruitment exercises, with claims of favoritism and delayed verification of applicants.

  • Procurement Mismanagement (2019): The NYS faced criticism for mismanagement in procurement processes, including delays and overpricing of materials for training programs.

The government has since implemented stricter oversight measures and internal audits to prevent recurrence and ensure transparency in current recruitment exercises.

How to Participate

  • Visit your local sub-county recruitment centre between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

  • Carry original and certified copies of academic certificates, identification cards, and other relevant documents

  • Follow instructions provided by NYS officials at the centres

The NYS Recruitment 2026 is expected to significantly increase youth participation in national service programs and contribute to building a generation of disciplined, skilled, and employable young Kenyans.
