A former senior official in the Taita Taveta County Government has been charged with allegedly fraudulently obtaining more than KSh8.3 million in public funds through fake imprest claims for activities that never took place.
Geffrey Kimonge Mbogo, who served as the county’s Director of Political Affairs, appeared before the Voi Anti-Corruption Court and was charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property and deceiving his principal.
According to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mbogo allegedly acquired KSh8,303,021 from the county government between November 20, 2015, and December 16, 2016, by claiming funds for activities purportedly held in Dubai, Mombasa, Arusha, Nairobi, and Taita Taveta.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Evah Kanyuira told the court that the accused knowingly applied for various imprest warrants for activities that never occurred, thereby deceiving the county government and unlawfully obtaining public funds.
Mbogo denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.
The court released him on a cash bail of KSh1 million or an alternative bond of KSh2 million. The case will be mentioned on July 1, 2026, for pre-trial directions.
The prosecution of the former county official adds to ongoing efforts by anti-corruption agencies to crack down on the alleged misuse of public resources and hold public officers accountable for financial misconduct.
