Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been dropped from the Senate Committee on Energy following a reshuffle of several standing committees approved by the Senate.
The changes were announced today, after Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot tabled a motion seeking the reconstitution of various committees in line with the Senate Standing Orders.
“I rise to give notice of the following motion, which is the reconstitution of standing committees that notwithstanding the resolution of the Senate made on the 12th of February 2025 and on the approval of senators to serve in various standing committees of the Senate and pursuant to Standing Order number 197, 199, 228, and the fourth schedule to the Standing Orders, the Senate approves the following senators nominated by the Senate Business Committee to serve in the standing committees of the Senate as follows,” Cheruiyot told the House.
Under the new changes, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ will replace Sifuna in the Energy Committee, which is chaired by Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga. Garissa Senator Abdul Mohammed Haji has also been nominated to join the committee, replacing Nominated Senator Beatrice Akinyi Ogolla.
Meanwhile, Ogolla is set to move to the Committee on Agriculture, taking over from Kajwang’, while Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu has been nominated to the Committee on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), replacing Ogolla.

The committee changes come just days after Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination Dennis Itumbi claimed that Sifuna and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had formed a new political coalition.
In a statement on June 10, Itumbi alleged that Kalonzo would be the coalition’s presidential candidate, with Sifuna as his running mate, under a new outfit dubbed the Ukombozi Linda Mwananchi Alliance.
According to Itumbi, the alliance plans to bring together seven political parties and formally launch its activities through a series of memoranda of understanding in the coming weeks. He further claimed that the coalition had settled on preferred candidates for key Nairobi positions and that Kalonzo would officially launch his presidential bid in August 2026.
Neither Sifuna nor Kalonzo has publicly responded to Itumbi’s claims.
