TIFA Presidential Poll: Ruto Leads as Kalonzo-Sifuna Ticket Gains Opposition Support

TIFA Presidential Poll

The latest TIFA Poll has placed President William Ruto ahead of all other individual presidential contenders with 24 percent support, reaffirming his strong position in Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the next General Election.

The survey, conducted by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA), also revealed shifting dynamics within the opposition, where a potential coalition ticket featuring Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna emerged as the most preferred opposition combination.

According to the Poll findings, the Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket attracted 28 percent support among respondents identifying with the opposition, making it the leading opposition pairing in the survey.

The results come at a time when political activity across the country is intensifying as leaders position themselves for future electoral contests and possible coalition agreements.

President Ruto’s 24 percent support in the TIFA Presidential Poll indicates that the Kenya Kwanza administration continues to maintain a significant support base despite increasing criticism over the high cost of living, taxation, and economic challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.

Political analysts say the findings demonstrate the advantage incumbency gives President Ruto, especially as the government continues rolling out infrastructure projects, affordable housing initiatives, and agricultural reforms aimed at strengthening support across different regions.

On the opposition side, the emergence of the Kalonzo-Sifuna combination is likely to generate fresh debate over the future direction of opposition politics in Kenya. Kalonzo Musyoka, a veteran politician and former Vice President, has remained a key figure in opposition politics for years, while Senator Sifuna has increasingly gained national attention through his outspoken political engagements and defense of opposition positions.

Observers believe the pairing appeals to sections of voters looking for a blend of political experience and youthful leadership. The poll results may also influence ongoing discussions among opposition leaders seeking to build a united coalition capable of challenging President Ruto in the next election.

The TIFA Presidential Poll further highlights the growing importance of coalition politics in Kenya, where alliances have historically played a major role in determining electoral outcomes. Political parties are expected to intensify negotiations and grassroots mobilization efforts as the political environment gradually becomes more competitive.

Analysts note that while President Ruto currently leads individual presidential preferences, the formation of a strong and united opposition alliance could significantly reshape the country’s political contest in the coming years.

The findings are expected to spark further political reactions from both government allies and opposition leaders as the debate over Kenya’s future leadership continues to take shape.
