Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit in Mombasa have arrested two suspected traffickers and recovered 250 grammes of heroin during a targeted raid in Nyali.

The suspects, identified as Amir Latf and Ruhman Abubakar, were nabbed in an intelligence-led operation conducted at Maweni Estate, where officers raided a house believed to have been used to facilitate narcotics trafficking and other criminal activities.

“The targeted raid was initiated following credible intelligence regarding individuals implicated in both drug and child trafficking,” the DCI said in a statement.

According to investigators, the operation was carried out at a residence suspected to have been serving as a coordination point for the illicit activity.

“The operation took place at Maweni Estate, Nyali, where authorities searched a house believed to be used to facilitate the illicit activity,” the agency said.

During the search, detectives recovered three sachets of heroin, leading to the swift arrest of the two suspects.

“Inside the house, officers discovered three sachets of heroin, prompting the swift arrest of the suspects,” the DCI said.

Police said preliminary findings point to a wider criminal network, with investigators now pursuing leads on child trafficking activities allegedly linked to the duo.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that these individuals are not only traffickers of narcotics but are also entangled in child trafficking activities across Mombasa, Malindi and Nairobi,” the statement added.

The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned once processing is completed.

“They are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” the DCI said.

The agency said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle organised crime networks at the Coast.

“This arrest and recovery reaffirm the DCI’s commitment to combating drug and child trafficking through intelligence-led operations, ensuring the protection of vulnerable children and the dismantling of criminal networks involved in these serious crimes,” the agency said.
