Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has once again accused President William Ruto of orchestrating a scheme to silence him following violent scenes that disrupted a church service in Othaya, Nyeri County, on Sunday.

Speaking after the incident, Gachagua claimed that the chaos was politically motivated and aimed at intimidating him and his supporters. He alleged that the disruption formed part of a wider strategy to suppress dissenting voices within the opposition.

The confrontation occurred at ACK Witima Church, where a peaceful worship service quickly turned chaotic after unknown individuals allegedly stormed the venue, triggering panic among congregants. Reports indicate that women and children were exposed to tear gas, while several vehicles parked near the church compound were vandalized during the unrest.

In response to the incident, several opposition leaders have announced plans to pursue legal action against those responsible for the violence. They condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on freedom of worship and democratic expression.

Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen addressed the incident, assuring the public that the government would take firm action to prevent a repeat of such events. Murkomen vowed that those behind the violence would be identified and held accountable, emphasizing that security agencies had been instructed to maintain order and protect civilians.

The incident has sparked fresh political tension, with leaders from different camps trading accusations and demanding accountability as investigations into the church attack continue.
