Gachagua Dares Murkomen to Act Over ‘Incitement’ Claims

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has challenged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to act on his threat to take action against him, insisting he has done nothing wrong by speaking out.

Addressing leaders from Westlands Constituency on Wednesday, Gachagua dismissed Murkomen’s claims that he was inciting Kenyans, particularly those from the Mount Kenya region, saying he was only telling the truth.

“I heard him saying that I am inciting people. I want to tell you, I am telling the people the truth, and that truth is what they are calling incitement. There is nothing you can do to me, and there is nowhere you will take me,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President also renewed his criticism of President William Ruto, accusing him of sidelining and economically undermining leaders and businesspeople from the Mount Kenya region, including those who supported his 2022 presidential campaign.

Gachagua claimed several of the President’s former allies had already fallen out with him and warned that other leaders from the region serving in government would eventually face the same fate.

“He started with me, then went to Mithika Linturi and Justin Muturi. Mwangi Kiunjuri and Ichung’wah, you are next in line; he will deal with all of you. You should thank me for pushing for his removal,” he said.

Murkomen, responding to Gachagua’s remarks, accused the DCP leader of attempting to create fear in the Mount Kenya region to intimidate prominent businesspeople.

“The businesses of those who refuse to yield to his intimidation and blackmail are targeted for looting and destruction by his gangs and goons. He is the biggest threat to national unity and the economy of our country. His utterances and criminal activities are being closely monitored by our security agencies, and we shall do everything to ensure that the people and their properties are protected,” Murkomen said.

The exchange is the latest in an escalating war of words between the two leaders. Gachagua has accused the Interior CS of sponsoring goons during recent unrest and called for his resignation, while Murkomen has alleged that Gachagua orchestrated the violence witnessed in parts of the Mount Kenya region during recent protests.
