Kenya Power Planned Power Outage to Affect Four Counties on March 16

Kenya Power planned power outage will affect several regions across the country on Monday, March 16, 2026, as the Kenya Power and Lighting Company carries out routine maintenance on its electricity distribution network.

According to a public notice issued by the utility provider, the planned power outage is necessary to allow technicians to conduct essential repairs and upgrades on power lines and related infrastructure in order to improve reliability of electricity supply.

The scheduled maintenance will affect four counties — Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira and Nyeri — with power interruptions expected to last several hours depending on the location.

Kericho County

In Kericho County, the outage will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the following areas:
Bureti Dairies, Cheborge Market, Cheborge Boys Secondary School, Cheborge Girls Secondary School, Cheplanget Market, Chebwagwan Secondary School, Kibwastuiyo Market, Ngesumin Secondary School, Kapsegut Boys, Kureti TTI, Kenene Dispensary, Bokoyot Centre, parts of Roret Market, Tebesonik Factory and Tebesonik Centre, as well as nearby customers.

Kisii County

Residents in Kisii County will experience outages between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in areas including Kenyenya Primary School, Nyangweta SDA Secondary School, Etago Market, Nyansembe, Nyakeyo, Suguta, Moticho, Engou, Nyabera, Nyamaiya, Ekona, Mogenda, Ochodororo and Maroo.

  • Additional locations affected by the Kenya Power planned power outage include Gesonso Market, Gesonso Police Station, Ekioga, Ekioga Vocational, Nyakungu Primary School and surrounding areas.

Nyamira County

In Nyamira County, electricity will be interrupted from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Omogonchoro Market, Moitunya, Nyachichi Secondary School, Kerora, Kiabiraa Secondary School and nearby areas.

Nyeri County

Parts of Nyeri County will also experience thepower outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Kamakwa, Kamuyu, Nyawira Estate, parts of Ring Road, Kanoga Primary School, Mwonjoria, Kandara, Mt. Kenya Salvation School, Ciaraini, Karingaini, White House area and St. Xavier Gitathiini.

Additional affected areas include Njoguini Market, Kiina, Kabage, Njoguini Dispensary, Thatha and Njoguini Village.

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has advised residents and businesses in the affected regions to prepare for the temporary interruption by charging electronic devices and arranging alternative power sources where possible.

The company added that electricity supply may be restored earlier than scheduled once the maintenance work  is completed.
