Matano Revives Defamation Suit as Aussems Returns to Kenya

KCB FC head coach Robert Matano has welcomed the return of Patrick Aussems to the Kenyan Premier League following the Belgian’s appointment as Nairobi United FC head coach, but insists an unresolved defamation case between the two will now take its course.
The dispute dates back to April 2023, when Aussems was in charge of AFC Leopards. After a last-minute 1-0 defeat to Tusker FC, then coached by Matano, the Belgian appeared to aim at his counterpart in a post on social media.
“Unfortunately, we have been punished at the last minute due to a lack of aggressiveness! Congrats to the Players of Tusker FC. Of course I won’t talk about an old coach with no international experience who is more a juju man than a tactician…one could learn!”
Matano subsequently moved to court, accusing Aussems of defamation. However, the case stalled after the former AFC Leopards coach left Kenya just months later without filing a defence.

Now that Aussems has returned to the country, Matano says the matter can finally be concluded.
While expressing his delight at seeing the experienced coach back in the league, Matano maintained that he remains committed to pursuing justice through the courts.
“I’m happy to see him back. He did not file any defence in the case I sued him over, but now that he’s back in Kenya, the matter will proceed, and I will get justice,” said Matano
