The selection panel overseeing the recruitment of a new Chairperson and seven members of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has announced vacancies for the positions.
In an advertisement published today, the panel invited applications from suitably qualified Kenyans.
“Now therefore, pursuant to the provisions of Section 4 and the First Schedule of the National Cohesion and Integration Act, the Selection Panel invites applications from suitably qualified persons for nomination for appointment to the positions of Chairperson and Members of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission,” the advert stated in part.
According to the panel, candidates seeking the NCIC Chairperson position must be Kenyan citizens, hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya, and have at least ten years’ knowledge and experience in areas such as race and ethnic relations, human relations, public affairs and human rights, peace, and security. They must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Applicants for the position of NCIC member must also be Kenyan citizens with a recognised university degree and at least two years’ experience in similar fields, in addition to meeting Chapter Six requirements.
The panel further noted that state officers, members of political parties, persons who have promoted ethnic, racial or religious hatred, undischarged bankrupts, individuals previously removed from office for contravening the law, and those who have failed to meet statutory obligations are ineligible for appointment.
Successful candidates will serve a single non-renewable term of six years. Salaries and benefits will be determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
The panel said the names of all applicants and shortlisted candidates will be published in the Kenya Gazette, two national daily newspapers, and on the Public Service Commission (PSC) website.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to present original documents, including the national identity card, academic and professional certificates, transcripts, and other supporting testimonials.
They will also be expected to submit valid clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), a registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Police Clearance Certificate). Candidates with foreign degrees must provide a letter of recognition from the Commission for University Education (CUE).
Interested applicants are required to submit hard copy applications accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, a copy of ID/passport, copies of academic certificates, testimonials, and other relevant supporting documents.
Applications should be submitted in a sealed envelope clearly marked either:
-
“Application for Chairperson, National Cohesion and Integration Commission” or
-
“Application for Member, National Cohesion and Integration Commission.”
The applications should be addressed to:
The Chairperson, Selection Panel for the Selection of Nominees for the National Cohesion and Integration Commission
Public Service Commission House
P.O. Box 30095 – 00100, Nairobi
They may be posted, sent by courier, or hand-delivered and signed for at the Public Service Commission Secretary’s Office on the 4th Floor, Commission House, off Harambee Avenue.
The deadline for submission is February 13, 2026, by 5.00pm.
The advertisement comes months after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen appointed a six-member selection panel to recruit new leadership for the commission.
In a gazette notice issued on Tuesday, November 4, Murkomen declared impending vacancies in the position of Chairperson and seven commissioners, effective November 17, 2025.
The selection panel comprises Francis Mejia, Reuben Chirchir, Pauline Mecharo, Alfred Mshimba, Michael Nzomo Mbituka, and Hannah Okwengu.
NCIC was established following the 2007–2008 post-election violence to promote national identity and values. It is mandated to curb ethno-political competition and ethnically motivated violence, eliminate discrimination on ethnic, racial and religious grounds, and promote national reconciliation, healing, and cohesion.
