Sports Veteran Diblo Kaberia is Dead

The Sports media fraternity is mourning the passing of veteran journalist and Radio Jambo sports commentator Diblo  ‘El Mego’ Kaberia.

Led by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed, Kaberia has been described by the sports journalists as a respected and passionate professional.

“It is with deep sorrow that we learn of the passing of Diblo Kaberia, a respected sports journalist, who was very passionate about his craft,” Mohammed stated, mourning the journalist.

“His contributions to sports journalism will be remembered and missed,” he added.

His former colleague and sports journalist, Fred Arocho, has also mourned him.

Kabeira passed away earlier today, with his employer, the Radio Africa Group, confirming his passing.

In the days leading up to his death, Kabeira’s colleagues in the sports journalism fraternity had embarked on a fund-raising drive to help facilitate his medical treatment.

Although the circumstances surrounding his death were not disclosed, the veteran journalist was mourned by colleagues, former colleagues, and fans at large.

Up to the time of his death, Kaberia worked as a sports commentator at Radio Jambo, where he was celebrated for his lively personality, comedic self-praise, and passionate commentary.

He officially joined the Radio Africa group in October 2008, where he remained for almost two decades before his sudden demise.

Alongside fellow commentator Fred Arocho, Diblo formed one of the most listened-to sports commentary pairings in East Africa. They analysed the Kenyan Premier League, English Premier League, and UEFA Champions League.

Before joining the radio, Kaberia played football during his early years before trying coaching as a career for close to 10 years as a high school coach, and also worked as a qualified match referee.
