Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has officially ditched the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), marking a significant realignment in Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Omanga was received by DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua at the party headquarters, where she declared her new political direction and publicly apologised to residents of Nairobi for previously supporting President William Ruto.
She accused the current administration of failing to deliver on key promises, including the 50-50 gender representation agenda, and expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s overall performance.
Earlier, Omanga had already signaled a break from UDA, aligning herself with the emerging opposition coalition and declaring interest in contesting the Nairobi Woman Representative seat in 2027.
This comes as the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) continues to woo more members, despite an escalating war of words between the United Opposition led by party leader Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto.
In addition, former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi had earlier joined DCP, further strengthening the party’s ranks as it positions itself as a key contender in the run-up to the 2027 general election.
Former KTDA chairman Solomon Maina, who is also eyeing the Mathira Member of Parliament seat, has likewise joined DCP, adding to the growing list of political figures aligning with the party.
Omanga’s move is seen as a political blow to UDA, where she was once a vocal supporter, and a boost to the opposition, particularly DCP, which is seeking to expand its influence across the country.
With more leaders shifting alliances, Kenya’s political arena is entering a volatile and highly competitive phase, as parties reorganize and strategize ahead of the next general election.
As Omanga Dumps UDA and loyalty changes ,alot is to be expected going forward in the ever changing Political Machination.
